Camp-Loving Canines
4/24/2008

As the weather begins to heat up, our minds start to revolve around relaxing vacations soon to come.

One of our favorite getaways has to be a good, old-fashioned camping trip…Getting our fill of the great outdoors with our spoiled Spot…hiking through tree-lined trails…sleeping under the stars…cooking over a campfire….bathing in the river…using a leaf as toilet paper…finding giant man-eating spiders in our sleeping bags…

Okay, so maybe we're not the real hardcore camping enthusiasts that we would like to be – but that doesn't mean we can't have a Troop Beverly Hills style indoor bug-free campout, right?

Anyway, when we do go camping, there's no one we'd rather be with than our special Spot.  Not only is he our favorite traveling partner but we just know that he'd take down any grizzly bear headed our way.  And what happened to Ned Beatty in Deliverance would never happen to us with our pooch on the lookout.

So, regardless of whether you and your pup are headed to the great campsites of Yosemite or just plan to set up tent in the pink bungalows of the Beverly Hills Hotel – we've rounded up all the best canine camping essentials to ensure that you're roughing it in comfort and style.

Alpine Pet Sleeping Bag
The lightweight puppy sleeping bag combines the convenience of a travel bed with the benefits of a sleeping bag.  The super cozy oval beds are made of water-repellent polyester filled with soft, warm polyfill and feature a bumper-style edge.  The sleeping bag conveniently rolls up and packs into the handy drawstring bag for storage and transportation.  Available at Pet Gadgets.

The Instant Dog Haus Tent
This portable pooch shelter features a removable inner quilted and padded blanket.  The compact and lightweight tent features a functional door and mesh air vent windows which can be zipped closed or left open for ventilation.  The tent is perfect for protecting your pooch from the hot summer sun and unexpected rain.  Available at Amazon.

Coleman Lantern Pet Tag
Campsites tend to get very dark at night which can often be a problem for your pup because he can't exactly hold up a lantern or a flash light.  Luckily, the Coleman Lantern Pet Tag allows your dog to take light with him.  The cute lantern-shaped, motion activated pet tag lights up with his every step, making your dog easy to see.  Available at Greg Robert's Pet Supplies

Chuck Wagon Dog Backpack
